ILCA vang – Upper assembly complete (Harken)

This is the most widely used upper assembly on an ILCA being strong, efficient, reliable & durable.

This block has a high working load (XXXKg) & an even higher break load (XXXKg). This later version has shaped side plates which narrows the head of the block enabling a single vang key to be centrally mounted. When fitted with an upgraded vang key secured by a bolt this upper assembly has proved to be both efficient & reliable.

NB – An earlier version of this block had parallel side plates & they were often seen with two vang keys mounted together on the clevis pin. This was done because the flange of the original vang key often failed so it was considered good practice to have a second on immediate standby! even though they were “off line” & the result was the block being unevenly stressed. Since the upgraded key is so very much stronger than the original this practice is no longer necessary.

The upgraded key can be easily recognised by its thicker flange.
